Suzanne Pleshette

 

Suzanne Pleshette, born January 31, 1937, died on January 19 in 2008. She was an American voice actress, actress film, and TV actress. Pleshette started her theatre career and appeared in films in the late 1950s. Later, Pleshette was a prominent actor in movies such as Rome Adventure (1962), Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds (633) and Spirited Away (12001). In later years, she appeared in numerous television productions. She was often acting as a guest and played Emily Hartley in The Bob Newhart Show, from 1972 until 1978. She won numerous Emmy Award nominations. Pleshette was born on January 31 1937 in Brooklyn Heights, New York to Geraldine (nee Kaplan) and Eugene Pleshette. The parents of her were Jewish immigrants from Russia and Austria-Hungary. Her mother was a dancer and artist who appeared on stage under the name Geraldine Rivers. Her father was stage director, manager of the New York's Paramount Theater and Paramount Theater in Brooklyn in Brooklyn, and an executive from the network. After graduating from Manhattan's High School of Performing Arts She attended Syracuse University for a semester and later transferred to Finch College. She then graduated from the prestigious acting academy in Manhattan called the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and was studying under the direction of famous acting instructor Sanford Meisner. The Boston Globe described her as sardonic in appearance and voice. At the age of 20, she was a stage actor. Her Broadway debut was in Meyer Levin's 1957 production of Compulsion. The play was adapted from the novel by Loeb and Leopold.
