   Heelan was the daughter of Kimball Heelan, an actress and teacher at Lowell Public Schools, and Kevin Heelan, a playwright. Conor is her older brother. Heelan's father, who is also known as being a dramaticist, has been a faculty member at Phillips Andover Academy since 1983. Heelan was a student at the Walnut Hill School for the Arts, and then spent an entire year at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Heelan was then transferred to the University of Southern California. In 2009, he graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Heelan received the James B.
