Rosamund Pike
Born in
London, England in 1979, Rosamund Mary Elizabeth Pike was the only child of
Caroline (Friend) (Friend), the classical violinist's mother, and Julian Pike,
an opera singer father. She spent her early years traveling across Europe because
of her parents' work. Pike was born in Bristol and attended Badminton School.
She then began acting in the National Youth Theatre. While appearing in a
National Youth Theatre production of "Romeo and Juliet", she was
first noticed and was signed by an agent. However, she continued her education
in Wadham College, Oxford, where she studied English Literature, eventually
graduating with an upper-second class with an honors degree.Pike appeared in a
number of UK TV series such as Wives and Daughters (1999) and then made her
debut in a feature film as the glacial beauty "Miranda Frost" in the
James Bond film, Die Another Day (2002); at the time the film premiered in
2002, she was only 23 years old. Though her debut was a major-budget action feature
The film work that followed was primarily in smaller, independent films like
Promised Land (2004), The Libertine (2004), (for which she won the Best
Supporting Actress award at The British Independent Film Awards) as well as
Pride & Prejudice (2005) as one of the Bennet daughters. After the
action film Doom (2006) as well as the thriller Fracture (2007), Pike attempted
a brief stint in Hollywood film. She then returned to smaller-scale films and
starred in some impressive performances in three movies: An Education (2008) as
well as Made in Dagenham (2010) as well as the leading role alongside Paul
Giamatti in Barney's Version (2010). In 2012, Pike portrayed the role of
Andromeda in the sci-fi epic Wrath of the Titans (2012). She returned to action
films featuring a female lead with Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher (2012).
